About Us
Of the 700,000 people living in Washington DC, nearly 11% face food insecurities. These insecurities occur most often in low-income families who can only afford to purchase non-organic, unhealthy foods, or sometimes no food at all. The goal of Greenbox is to help combat food insecurity in the DC area by providing affordable and healthy meal options to the BIPOC and low-income communities. Through a partner subscription model with the Common Good City Farm, local farmers will increase their revenue while providing the low-income community with accessible, fresh produce. In addition, each time a subscription is made, our organization will plant a tree to increase environmental sustainability.

Our Commitment To Sustainability
01
Local and Organic Sourcing
GreenBox partners with local farmers to source organic produce, emphasizing the importance of supporting sustainable farming practices that maintain healthy soils. This approach not only reduces the carbon footprint associated with long-distance food transport but also ensures that the produce is fresh and of high quality.

02
Reducing Food Waste
By working with farmers to acquire bruised or imperfect produce that might otherwise go unsold, GreenBox significantly reduces food waste. This initiative not only provides a market for produce that would typically be discarded but also makes healthy, organic food more accessible to those in need.
03
Biodegradable Packaging

All packaging used by GreenBox is made from biodegradable materials, underscoring the organization's commitment to minimizing its environmental impact. This eco-friendly packaging strategy helps reduce waste and encourages a more sustainable lifecycle for packaging materials.
Our Future Vision
Greenbox envisions a future in which every resident of Washington DC, regardless of income, enjoys access to nutritious and affordable meals. By fostering partnerships with local farmers through our subscription model, we aim to create a sustainable and inclusive food ecosystem that not only nourishes communities but also promotes social equity and environmental well-being.

1
Expansion of EBT Accessibility
Strengthening the integration of Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) systems to make healthy, organic produce more accessible to low-income families, ensuring that nutritious food options are within reach for everyone in the community.
2
Community Center Development
Establishing a GreenBox community center that serves as a hub for education, subscription box pickups, and community engagement. The center will host workshops, classes, and events focused on nutrition, sustainable living, and organic farming practices.
3
Partnership Expansion
Actively seeking new partnerships with local farms, businesses, and community organizations to broaden the impact of GreenBox’s mission. By collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders, GreenBox aims to create a more resilient and sustainable food system.
